The Dutch representative of the European Commission has asked our agency to develop a European issue awareness campaign for the Netherlands. The objective is not to discuss the policy of the European Commission, nor is it to convince people of a specific point of view. Rather it is to draw people’s attention to certain economic, environmental and social topics in society in which Europe plays a role, and which are not always black or white issues. They are true dilemmas and that is the way the campaign is presented.
The themes and issues are raised through the means of cartoons, in which the same ‘euh ?’ character always finds himself facing an amusing dilemma. The cartoons create traffic to a specific website (www.euh.nu) where the topics are explained (pros and cons) and visitors can add comments or even make their own cartoons.
3 flights of the cartoons will run in the free daily newspaper, Metro. The first flight dealt with consumer protection (Spring 09) and ‘Jobs & Growth’ and ‘Global Warming’ will be the themes running in the Autumn campaign.
